No one has Any Stories? Yeah right! As a beginner I just wanted to hear what things have happened to you when you were new. It'll boost my spirits to know that I'm not so terrible to bruise myself on occasion. For example; I have so many missed catches one that was meant to be a catch behind my head whacked me right atop me noggin! I was a little sick and dizzy. Another time I tried a similar catch and it hit my elbow so hard it split open. bloody and bruised I continued on and whacked it a couple times more. It was amazing to me how much I lean on my elbow because everytime I would..OUCH! And trying to sleep, well it wasn't easy. By the next day it was so black and a bit swollen. Surprisingly Noone said a thing the whole day until closing....Maybe they thought I'd have some great story about a fight or car accident perhaps saving some defenseless babies and they wanted to give me their full attention...who knows. The good news is I'm much better at those catches I've really surprised myself. It's true Practice Practice Practice...

Okay okay....I'll start the stories off. I work at TGI Friday's, where we always run two bartenders inside the bar. I was working front bar (as usual) while my buddy was down at service bar, slaving away. My bartop was wrapped and they were all pretty much just waiting on food to get there, so I thought I would entertain to make them forget the fact that their food was taking forever. I decide I'm gonna promo a Long Island....so I grab my tin and commence to flairing. I do a few bottle moves to pour into the tin, add the sour mix....crowd loves it. I fill my glass with ice and proceed to cap the glass and tin together. Shake it a couple times, then flip it behind my back. I turn to flip it back out in front of me..... What i didn't know was that when I flipped it behind my back, the impact broke the seal between the two, so when I went to flip it back out in front..... The drink itself comes out all over my face while the glass sails down to service bar and shatters in both ice wells. I can't even see at this point....all I know is that I broke something somewhere. Disaster. I laughed it off though, and everyone enjoyed it. No one was hurt (unless you count my pride), but we did have to burn all the ice, which sucked at peak business.
Moral of the story: Make damn sure the seal is TIGHT!!
Cheers.

right with regard to bruises and accidents and things, i have had em all, black eyes, fat lips, bruises all over the place, pour spouts through fingers (not all the way through, i'm just kinda dramatic)... But i did want to share with you all a story about saturday night... I was having the best night ever, flairing like a mad thing, flirting with some very very lovely women (one of which gave me her number and we are going for a drink tonight (also she is so fine you wouldnt believe!!!)) this was until about 1am...
The first thing that went wrong was that a collegue of mine found a toilet plunger and started messing about with it he was plunging everything the floor, walls, other members of staff, it was great fun and loads of the customers thought it was really funny until he plunged one of the huge mirrors on the back wall and pulled it off, luckily 2 other members off staff were there to catch it, luckily it didnt break.
the next thing that went wrong was that one of my other collegues was in the bar drinking, now he was plastered, i mean well and truelly off his face... the first thing we saw was this guy jump off a stool and run directly at the wall, hitting it head first and knocking himself unconsious, we rushed over to him only to find he was out cold and had a massive gash in his head, needless to say i lost 2 memebers off staff who had to take him to hospital
ok the last thing which only went wrong for me was that they had all decided to play a seriously nasty trick on me, they said as top taker i could have a shot, i was like great, i'll have anything thats not minging, but the bastards decided to mix chilly and white chocolate vodka and give it to me as a double shot, this was horrible, plus it made me throw up all over the shop, all i have to say is bastards!!!
anyway i hope that was kinda of entertaining just me rambling about 1 night that hopefully is gonna land me a really really hot bird!!!
take it easy people

Geeez, just 2 days ago my colleague(?spelled right?) dropped a liter bottle of Bacardi. Actually, it flew out of his hands... Straight on the bartop... And then down, between the people at the bar. Only one or two people noticed. It was hillarious, as I looked up from my station and all I saw was him begging one guy to get the bottle back "behind the bar" Noone injured, the bottle didnt break. There was about an ounce in it, so the patrons didnt want to keep it. Next day he let a flairco airborne, stright on the bartop again, hitting (knocking) a beermug. Didnt break, didnt spill. But it was a huge crowd pleaser Everyone cheered, that it didnt break. My story: I opened a coke bottle with my barblade, and hit the lid away. Knocking a red bull can over, spilling some of it. I was laughing my ass off, as I started the move with telling theother guy: "Watch this, only now and only for you!" - Bang. There I go on a funny weekend

I don't have any stories of my flairing (my manager frowns on it ), but I've got one from when I took my barschool. During our "practical" test, which was 14 drinks in 7 minutes (*gasp*), the instructor was practicing shadow passes with a double flip in it while he was calling out drinks. About the 10th pass he made hit him in the head... HARD. He went down... and out. Was unconcious for about 3 minutes. I nearly shit myself laughing when he finally woke up and couldn't remember why he was on the floor.

Who was your teacher and what school were you attending? I would love to use that joke on them.

Well gut if you want stories i have loads. to start of my flair is not bad now just competed in wild and company flair comp. (Portugal and came first place in the amateurs) but i am a very clumsy person by nature. add the fact that I'm now teaching my self to flair didn't make a good combination. there has been countless minor accidents and many, so many injuries. but there are to main incidents that stick one good and one both good and bad. The first was about 4 months after i started to flair. i was working for hard rock cafe in Birmingham and i had just bought my first flair bottle. it was a very quite Monday night and we had a singing competition (rock idol) on so the place was half full but all families of the singers. i was feeling quite good about my flaring (not messed up yet) so i decided to go for gold and try a shadow pass in the middle of my routine (not even practiced that much) but as i threw the bottle i notice my manager walking straight toward me i panicked (1st mistake) and messed the throw the bottle bounced off my had then (second mistake) i tried to grab the bottle which was way out of my reach i trip-ed and ending up hitting the bottle away from my hand and straight into the NEW micros till and shattered the screen and it was just my luck that the singer had finished her song at the exact time the bottle came crashing into till. to a round of applause from the punters and one big bollocking from the manager. the second story was one weird day. it was a Sunday, id worked an 45 hour week already and i was dog tired. i was on my own looking forward to a nice quite shift to nurse my hangover and to recover form not sleeping much that week. but what something that had slipped my mind (hangover) was that green day were playing a concert right around the corner. (i remembered when the bassist came in for lunch). that was the fist weird thing. it came to about half 3 i had completely set the bar for the pm crew and went for a fag. i just lit the fag when a get a call from the waitress watching he bar. i went running back to the bar to find the place packed full of green day fans all wanting a drink at the same time. lucky i was to tired to get stressed but i did need to pick up the pace. i lost the plot don't know what happened top me but i just changed. all my troubles didn't matter and i was braking in to a sweat for the first time in ages. i was on fire no flair yet (drinks first). i was serving like i never served before. after about 1.30 hours of constant serving and running food to help out the restaurant. nelma (one of the pm crew) turned up but but the second didn't. that meant i was pulling a double. so i just got on with it. now that i had help the was time to put on a bit of a show. me and nelma were the only flair bartender that worked the so i didn't mind working a double. we then started to flair while working. and i was on top form i landed all my tricks and Even managed to pull of a flawless tandem routine with nelma. i was going great and i managed to rack up some tips. but what goes up must come down. as alway i was because of a fit chic. i was feeling very cock at this point and was making a LIT and was doing well on my last trick i was going for a pour finis where with the shaker in my left hand behind my back i threw the bottle from behind my back to catch in a pour and i lost my concentration (cause i made eye contact with the girl) and messed up the throw and ended up smacking myself in the face with the bottle. it broke and cut me just under my eye. lets just say my chances of pulling went straight out the window.

this isnt really flair related but is bar related. after i cut this bloke off at work on friday cos he was far too dunk. he refused to leave and was gettin well aggresive so i called a doorman. while i was talking to the doorman lettin him know what had gone on he threw up on the bar, barmaid i work with, on some random girl and somehow in the drink diana (the barmaid) was making. nice. so we had loads of puke that was pure liquid over her, the bar, in a drink and on a punter. for some reason the bloke whos drink it was blamed me for it and threw an ashtray at me. cheers mate. so i had to work the rest of the night on my own working a 3 person bar that smelled of puke cos diana got sent home the puke had managed to get behind and in the dumpfridge so couldnt clean it too easily till i could empty it. nice

djrom try www.bartendermagic.com. i got a story, again isnt really flair related but is pretty funny. i was at work last night and a barmaid i work with who is really small and thin jumped on my back to give me a hug, or what she thought was a hug. she actually locked me in a sleeper hold, i felt my head go faint and my arms and legs go weak and i dropped to one knee. i tried tellin her to get off but could not breathe, i tried tappin her arms a a signal and that didnt work either, instead it seemed to have entirely the wrong effect and she actually got even tighter and actually managed to choke me out behind the bar infront of loads of punters. i woke up in the first aid room with the doorstaff laughin at me and tryin to find the footage on the cctv cameras. i got up and went back to the bar and get a massive cheer from the punters who saw it.

i remember not so long ago, when i was just starting out in flairing, i had just stalled a bottle on the back of my hand (youll have to excuse the fact i dont know the names of any moves), i then attempted the move where you move your hand to left quickly to tip the bottle an catch it by the neck, well i tried and moved my hand way too fast, the bottle shot off my hand and straight into our premium spirit rail taking the necks off most of the bottles of our most expensive spirits an then straight inot the pint glasses behind them, smashing about 20 of them. all the customers saw, laughed and pointed! luckily our manager wasnt on the bar at the time. i know understand why were not allowed to flair lol

I've been practicing whole day bottle throw, when it lands on the back of your hand, and managed to do that trick behind the bar, in front of the public. When I got home, at 4am, my room mate still was playing Oblivion, so i decided to show him what I've learned. I grabbed a bottle of bols blue liquiore, and started to thorow it... Well, couple a times the trick went pretty good, but when I decided to spice it up, bottle slipped from my hand and I tried to catch it... Instead of grabbing the bottle, a hit it soo hard, that it flies towards the wall, breaks, and all the broken glass falls everywhere... The most upsetting was that bottle shatter into really small pieces and thay ALL went down on our beads... 4 o'clock in the morning and I am hoovering appartment... Whel, accidents happen. Do take care!
