worked at a place in kent over christmas, they hated me using my barblade because it left bottle tops all over the floor.
anyone else had this problem at work?
i really cant see a problem in having bottle tops on the floor.

Not a problem for us, we just sweep them up or kick them closer to the bin when we have a slack few minutes!

ive had complaints about it from girls who wear stupidly thin soled shoes, ive heard rumours of baa bar ltd (the company i work for) trying to ban bar blades an account of a few rolling rock bottles having glass taken off the bottle neck, even though this happens with the wall mounted bottle openers. has anyone else found rolling rock bottles to be weaker?

where i work, they give us the blades to use. As long as we open the beer for the customer they're happy. As for the bottle tops, we are usually drowning in them but no one cares.
As for taking the neck of the bottle off, thats down to your poor technique of the blade. You have to use a straight up motion and just catch the bottle top, not hit it diagonally as this always takes the neck off. learn to hit it straight up and you'll never have this problem again.

doesn't always take off the neck, but the chances are higher.
However some people claim that they get a more consistent pop when they go diagonally.
Each to their own i guess

i have the same problem with the barblade - bottletops on the floor, but where i work, we have a big blue bin at the end of the bar and what i do is hold the opener in a simple reverse grip, open the bottle infront of you simply. then when the cap is falling to the floor, i side kick it into the bin, this is something ivve practiced every shift and can do it about 5 times out of ten times now. The customer loves it! try it and see how it goes, if it goes in then u face sweeping up 1 less cap at the end of night! if it doesnt then its no loss!

i usually hit it towards the bin too. doesnt usually go very near it, on the occasion that i actually hit it but never mind ha.
yeah i dont pop it very much at work, it tends to fiz up too much, i bought a hwole crate of bottles at a house party lately and practiced with them. I think ive got it now, which is nice. Only ever cracked one bottle top anyway, it wasnt like it was a regular occurance.
luckily i odnt work at the place that complained any more.

All here at the Rat & Parrot in South Africa pop bottles! we only do it later on in the evening cos the loud popping sound sometimes irritates the customers wanting to have a quiet drink earlier on in the eveing when the music gets a bit louder its not really a problem anymore, we even have bottle popping competitions to see which bartender is the fastest popper! Great fun! There is a guy here who loves to pop two beers at once by holding two bar blades in his hand ... not easy to do but once you get the hang of it it looks pretty impressive. happy popping

we have rubber bounce mats which have holes which the bottle caps get tredden into. we have bottle caps all over the back bar which isnt an issue cos the floors and shelves all need wiping/sweeping up at the end of each shift anyway. we do sometimes swipe caps towards the bins but its noot a huge issue.
