Hi all, Im a UK kid, my brother was a barman for a while many years ago and he was taught basic flairing, I'd see him doing it as a kid and ive alway s wanted to try it myself. just got back from a holiday in france where one day I found myself bored with many empty bottles of wine, and with a floor of sand I figured that it was my chance to give it a go. Ive only done it for three or four days but Ive pretty much got all of the beginner/intermediate moves down and I cant wait to learn more. Now, it just so happens that this holiday I was also introduced to fire poi. I had the idea of learning how to flair with two bottles with the necks (where you'd have the pourer tip thing) on fire. I have searched for hours to find bottles designed for this but cant find them anywhere, do they exist? has anyone else tried this? I did search the forum but couldn't find anything, so any help would be great as its my birthday next week and my bro said hed buy me some if I could find them! Thanks! this seems like a great community youve got going! H
P.S. Sorry for asking advice in my first post!

Firstly I must stress that i dont recommend fire flair, its dangerous and many things can go wrong!
But, and I might be wrong on this, but i think that you can use regular flair bottles with a rag type wick stuffed in the end soaked in a flammable liquid, sure its gonna wreck ur bottles tho!
No need to apologize for asking questions thats what the board is for..welcome to the world of flair bro!

Thanks for the quick reply! By regular bottles do you mean the ones designed for flairing or glass bottles? I've only ever used glass wine bottles (only broken one so far haha!) Surely the regular flair bottles would melt wouldn't they? (are they made of plastic?) but I also have a feeling that the heat would make the glass expand and smash on a glass bottle. My brother said that hes seen a guy doing it with fire before and he was using black bottles. Are there many people who fire flair? I'm trying to learn it from the basics, like, Im adapting all of my moves so that I don't have to touch the neck in preparation.
Anybody else know of bottles designed for fire flare?
Cheers, H

You can use normal flair bottles, they don't melt as long as you don't burn too long. Glass is ok too. Don't use a rag though, find some napkins/serviettes, unfold them and roll them up into very tight straws. Make enough of them to stuff into the neck of the bottle tightly so they dont fall out, then trim them down to about 2 inches long from the neck. I'm new to fire flair so I'll keep you posted if I discover any more tips

i do regular fire flair, basically all i do to prepare is like nakeddave said, fold up napkins into straws, ram the bottle neck with them, cover it in lighter fluid and start flairing. it is very important you master all your tricks that you will be usingwhilst the bottle is on fire before you try this because a lot can go wrong and there are worse consequences. also the heat from the bottle and the flame obviously extend further than a standard pour spout so you need to be confident and capable to keep the flames far enough away from your clothes and skin to avoid burning yourself. to be honest i would work on routines before i would start learning to fire flair. that being said if you really want to progress straight to fire keep a bucket of water nearby to put the flames out, practice in big open spaces with nothing flammible around you. also dont let the flame burn for any prolonged amount of time because the bottle will heat up which can cause burns or the bottle to shatter!!! any other questions ill be glad to see what i can do

Hi again! Thanks for all the advice. Well, Ive done it! Ive learnt how to do it and ive been fire-flairing at parties and stuff and Ive invented a mechanism for flairing with fire safely! Basicly, I made a cylinder of mesh by rolling it up just wider than a regular bottleneck and sealed one end off by bending the mesh in to the center. I put a firelighter inside it (those white cubes you use for lighting barbeques) then I slip the open end of the cylinder over the bottle neck (with the cap on the bottle) and clamp it on with a tube-clamp like this one: Then just light it and off you go! Peace H I'll post some photos if people want?
